South African Visitor Enjoys Canadian Winter!
1/21/2010By Mr. Gerry Bird
For the first time in a few years now, LCS (Lakefiedl College School in Ontario, Canada) is pleased to welcome a visiting exchange student from St. Cyprian’s School, a boarding and day school for girls in Cape Town, South Africa. Tess Witney arrived for the start of term on January 4 and has hardly slowed down since. The change of hemisphere, seasons, boarding (Tess is living in Moodie House) after being a day student at home, and many cultural differences have all required some adjustment, but Tess has enthusiastically embraced every new experience presented to her. She has proven herself to be a very resilient, adaptable young woman and although, not surprisingly, she experienced a little homesickness at first, she says that she is “absolutely loving” her time at LCS.
This past Thursday found Tess enjoying a day of snow-boarding at Sir Sam’s Ski Resort during the annual Ted Pope Day celebrations. She has already signed up for the February Break ski trip to Mount Tremblant and is also looking forward to participating in the school’s three-day dog-sledding expedition in early March. A cheerful, engaging presence in Moodie House, in her Grade 10 classes, and in the school’s recreational ski program, Tess is making the most of her time at LCS to experience all that winter has to offer!
